Science Day

At the beginning of each half term we hold an Aspirations Starter Day whereby we celebrate one of the 8 Aspirations Conditions.

The Aspirations Academies Trust believe that for students to have high aspirations, three Guiding Principles must be present: Self-Worth, Engagement, and Purpose.

The Guiding Principles, in turn, are lived out through the 8 Conditions that emphasise relationships, active and engaging teaching and learning, and a sense of responsibility over one’s own aims and goals.

The 8 Conditions are: Belonging, Heroes, Sense of Accomplishment, Fun & Excitement, Curiosity & Creativity, Spirit of Adventure, Leadership & Responsibility, and Confidence to Take Action. The 8 Conditions make a difference because they help schools put into practice the three principles that guide aspirations work.

Thus, for the first half of Spring Term our focus is centred around nurturing and exploring the themes of Curiosity & Creativity.

On the first day back the children participated in 6 different science activities exploring:

  • Pulse rates
  • Reflex actions
  • Air resistance
  • How unique our finger prints are
  • Surface tension of water
  • Sight/optical illusions

It was wonderful to watch the children working together. It was a day full of fun, laughter, oohs and aaahs – the loudest of which we think came from Miss Wilding’s room as the children had the opportunity to throw their homemade paper helicopters out of the window into the playground and also down from the 1st floor balcony!

We hope that you enjoy browsing through the photos and that it gives you a sense and flavour of the day!
